The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has introduced a new board of members led by Dr. Albert Byamugisha as the Chairman. This marks the 5th inauguration of the UBOS board and aims to enhance the bureau’s capacity to make crucial decisions for the country.

Dr. Byamugisha, a well-known statistician and economist, expressed his appreciation for leading the board. He highlighted the significance of accurate data in guiding effective policy-making, stating, “Statistics are crucial for informed decisions, and it’s our duty as a board to ensure UBOS continues to provide precise and timely information.”

The board includes professionals from diverse fields like economics, social sciences, and data analysis, including Dr. Allen Kabagenyi, Ms. Rosette Nakavuma, Ms. Irene Birungi, Dr. Rogers Matte, Dr. Jacob Opolot, and Dr. Chris Mukiza.

Principle Judge Flavian Zeija commended UBOS for its commitment to transparency. He stressed the importance of trustworthy and confidential data collection to protect individuals’ privacy while ensuring accurate statistical reports.

Amos Lugolobi, the State Minister for Planning, officiated the ceremony and urged the new board members to uphold trust and remain committed to their oath. He recognized UBOS’ extensive efforts in collecting and analyzing data that forms the foundation for critical decision-making in Uganda.

Lugolobi emphasized the role of accurate statistics in understanding the nation’s current state, identifying trends, and devising strategies for growth. He called for data-driven policies to foster socio-economic development, saying, “Accurate statistics allow us to understand the current state of the nation, identify trends, and devise strategies to address challenges and promote growth.”

Lugoloobi also urged the new Board to forge strategic partnerships, embrace the digital revolution, support government monitoring and evaluation, and uphold corporate governance standards.

With the new UBOS board expertise, collective vision, and commitment to accurate data collection, Uganda can anticipate evidence-based policies and sustainable development for years to come.
