As the 27th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSCOP) approaches, Uganda is poised to showcase its global standing and hospitality. Speaker of Parliament Anitah Among expressed gratitude to President Museveni for the financial support that enabled the organization of the conference, scheduled to take place from January 3rd to 6th, 2024, at the Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort.

In a press statement, Among highlighted President Museveni’s pivotal role in ensuring the success of the conference, revealing that the President will inaugurate the event on January 4th, 2024. She thanked the coordinating committee, led by Abdu Katuntu, for their efforts in organizing the conference.

The Speaker extended an invitation to all Ugandans to participate in the conference, urging those unable to attend in person to offer their prayers for a successful event.

She emphasized the networking opportunities that the conference would bring, fostering collaboration between Commonwealth countries in various sectors, including economics, hospitality, and tourism.

The media was invited to tour the Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort, a venue that will host the conference, as the Speaker expressed appreciation to the media for bridging the gap between Parliament and the public.

Delegates from 43 countries have confirmed their attendance, including special guests from the Republic of South Sudan and the East African Legislative Assembly.

Among also emphasized the business opportunities associated with the influx of delegates, encouraging Ugandan citizens to leverage these prospects. The conference, she noted, is a testament to Uganda’s global positioning and its commitment to fostering international relations based on mutual respect and shared interests.

The conference agenda will cover diverse topics, including discussions led by Uganda and Pakistan on ‘Diverse and Inclusive Parliament, Youth, and Gender Sensitivity.’ Other topics include Environment and Climate Change, Security Measures for Parliamentarians, Health and Wellbeing Support in Parliaments, and the Role of Speakers and Presiding Officers.

A special session on building consensus for Parliamentary business will also be held, with expectations of significant benefits for Uganda, such as strengthened ties with Commonwealth Parliaments and increased tourism.

The Chairperson of the CSPOC Organizing Committee, Hon. Abdu Katuntu, revealed that 34 countries have confirmed attendance, and he emphasized that all High Commissioners and Heads of Mission will be invited to the opening ceremony.

As Uganda positions itself on the global stage, the 27th CSCOP promises to be a platform for fruitful discussions, collaboration, and networking, reinforcing the country’s commitment to international cooperation and development.
