NAM-Uganda mobile app to provide essential updates

NAM-Uganda mobile app to provide essential updates

In a forward-looking move, Uganda has developed the NAM-Uganda mobile app, available on IOS and soon to be released on Android by December 15, 2023. The app will serve as an information dissemination platform, providing essential updates and details throughout the Summit.

This innovation was made known at the Advanced Teams briefing, presided over by Vincent Bagiire, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who also shed light on the extensive measures undertaken by the government to ensure a seamless and secure experience for all participants.

Visa facilitation and online accreditation

Bagiire announced that Uganda has streamlined the entry process for Summit participants. Gratis visas will be extended to all Members of Official Delegations. To further enhance efficiency, the registration and accreditation process will be conducted online through dedicated portals for each Summit. Login credentials have been dispatched to Member States’ Missions at the United Nations, emphasizing the unique credentials for each Summit.

Security protocols and accreditation badges

Highlighting the paramount importance of security and integrity, Bagiire clarified that the printing of accreditation badges will only commence upon the receipt of Delegations Lists through Diplomatic channels. Dedicated Protocol Liaison Officers will be assigned to each delegation throughout the Summit, ensuring a personalized and secure experience.

Transportation and accommodation

Given the limited number of vehicles permitted at the Summit venue, the government has arranged shuttle transport for Delegates between designated hotels, central locations, and the venue. Recognizing insufficient accommodation at the Summit venue, several hotels have been identified for use during the event, ensuring the comfort of all participants.

Media accreditation and facilities

Members of the international media will be accredited by Uganda Media Centre in coordination with Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Accreditation is ongoing, with a general media advisory scheduled for December 15, 2023.

To facilitate media coverage, the government will set up three functional media facilities at Entebbe International Airport, Hotel Africana, and Speke Resort Munyonyo. These centers will offer high-speed internet, ample bandwidth, and free WiFi at key locations.

Media and ICT services will be enhanced with the distribution of SIM cards for delegates through telecom companies.

Summit schedule

The 19th NAM Summit is scheduled to unfold over six days at Speke Resort Munyonyo:

  • 15–16 Jan, 2024: Meeting of Senior Officials
  • 17–18 Jan, 2024: Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs
