Private Sector Foundation Uganda in an annual event, the Private Sector Development Awards, lauds entities making significant strides in nurturing small and medium enterprises (SMEs). This year, PSFU acknowledged URSB, among other organizations, individual entrepreneurs, and government agencies, for their commendable support to the private sector.

In a momentous recognition of its pivotal role in fostering private sector growth, the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) has been honored with the prestigious Government Agency of the Year Award for 2023.

URSB’s victory was attributed to its exceptional efforts in promoting private sector growth and development, with particular acclaim for its all-digital and online strategies. This innovative approach has revolutionized the pace of registration services, providing unparalleled ease and convenience for the business and investment community.

The success of URSB’s digital strategy is aligned with broader national development goals outlined in Uganda’s National Development Plan III. This approach not only simplifies business registration but also underscores the bureau’s commitment to creating a favorable business climate conducive to private sector-led development.

Mercy K. Kainobwisho, the Registrar General of URSB, expressed gratitude for the award and acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the URSB team, private sector players, and PSFU.

In her statement, Kainobwisho emphasized the agency’s dedication to creating a business-friendly climate that promotes private sector-led development and competitiveness in Uganda.

She highlighted URSB’s multifaceted role in facilitating business registration, protecting intellectual property rights, and supporting the use of movable property as collateral for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to access financing.

The agency’s Security Interest in Movable Property Registry System (SIMPO) has been instrumental in enabling the use of movable assets as collateral for loans, contributing to the financial empowerment of businesses across the country.

As the proud recipient of the Government Agency of the Year Award, URSB perceives this recognition as motivation to continue its efforts in supporting entrepreneurship growth and creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
