Uganda mourns Economist Keith Muhakanizi

Under Muhakanizi’s leadership, the Ugandan government has implemented a number of policies aimed at promoting economic growth and reducing poverty. Kampala: The former permanent secretary and secretary to the treasury (PSST), and Permanent Secretary Office of the Prime Minister Mr Keith Muhakanizi, has died.

Muhakanizi, died in a hospital in Milan, Italy, the Director Media Centre Ofwoono Opondo said in a tweet.

Sources close to Muhakanizi’s family said that the deceased was flown to Italy on Sunday for treatment.

The Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja said the country had lost a hardworking senior civil servant.

The PM said her office had informed the president and arrangements are being made to have the body flown back home and the burial arrangements.

Members of Parliament across the political divide hailed Muhakanizi for being bold in handling money issues.

Early Life and Education

Keith Muhakanizi was born on December 12, 1961, in Uganda. He grew up in a family of educators who instilled in him a deep appreciation for the importance of education and the power of knowledge. Muhakanizi attended Makerere University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. He later went on to earn a Master’s degree in Economic Policy and Planning from the University of London.

Career in Public Service

After completing his studies, Muhakanizi began his career as an economist, working for the Ugandan Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development. Over the years, he has held various positions within the ministry, including serving as the Principal Finance Officer and the Director of Budget.

In these roles, Muhakanizi has played a key role in shaping Uganda’s economic policies and promoting sustainable development. He is widely respected for his expertise in budgeting and financial management, and has been credited with helping to bring stability and growth to Uganda’s economy.

Contribution to Uganda’s Economic Development
