In a bid to bolster the local production of vegetable oil and uplift the livelihoods of smallholder farmers, the National Oil Seeds Project has embarked on an ambitious endeavor across 81 districts within six area-based hubs.

The project, which targets at least 120,000 smallholder farmer households, focuses on four key oil seed value chains: soybean, sunflower, sesame, and groundnuts.

The overarching goal of the National Oil Seeds Project is clear: to increase domestic production of vegetable oil, ultimately satisfying the growing local demand for this essential cooking and industrial commodity.

Soybean, known for its versatile applications in various food products and animal feed, is set to play a pivotal role in the project’s objectives. Likewise, sunflower, with its high-quality oil content, promises to be a key driver in meeting local vegetable oil needs. Sesame, celebrated for its unique flavor and nutritional value, and groundnuts, a popular and nutritious snack, will also receive focused attention within this comprehensive initiative.

The National Oil Seeds Project has recognized the challenges faced by smallholder farmers and seeks to empower them through targeted interventions.

By providing access to modern agricultural techniques, quality seeds, and improved market linkages, the project intends to boost the productivity and income of these vital stakeholders.

This project represents a significant stride towards self-sufficiency in the vegetable oil sector, providing a promising outlook for both farmers and consumers.

As it progresses, the National Oil Seeds Project is set to contribute to a more robust and sustainable agricultural sector, ultimately benefiting the nation as a whole.
