Tailors meet Kadaga over taxes

The speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon Rebecca Kadaga meets the United Tailors Group and textile manufacturers association who called on her at Parliament. The tailors are requesting for extension of deadline for payment of taxes on imported textile.

Their contention is that they are being taxed heavily (5 dollars /Ush 18,254 per kilogram of textile imported) to protect the local industry, which is not making the textile.

Kadaga says she has taken note of their plea and will meet the concerned stakeholders. She noted that she is committed to ensuring that there are fair taxes and that the textile industry is not stifled.
